Congress can pass a voting rights bill. A state legislature can quietly dismantle the machinery of an election in a single session — or build it back.
In Michigan, we built it back. Because of the majority we won in 2022, Michigan has nine days of early in-person voting, same-day registration, no-reason absentee voting, firearms prohibited at polling places, and a guaranteed dropbox for every 15,000 residents. If the mail becomes an unreliable way to return a ballot this fall, Michigan voters will have somewhere else to put it.
Laws around elections are just one example, and none of our rights are guaranteed. These are the laws written by people who won state legislative races that nobody was paying attention to.
Sixteen of those races are on the ballot this November.

A competitive Michigan legislative race costs somewhere between a few hundred thousand dollars and a couple million. Perspective? More than $97 million was spent on just the primary for the U.S. Senate race in Michigan this year.
That kind of money would fund every state legislative race through November combined. And then some.
Fifty bucks is a rounding error in a nationalized federal race. Here, it can be the difference between another canvassing shift, a mail piece, or a candidate’s ability to run a digital ad to close the 200-vote gap they need to win.
There is no federal race anywhere in America where you can move the outcome the way you can here.

Mallory McMorrow launched A More Perfect Michigan in 2022 with what sounded like an absurd goal at the time: flip a state Senate that Republicans had held since 1984. We backed a dozen candidates in the races that would actually decide the chamber — picked with an insiders’ expertise, not off of a spreadsheet somewhere in D.C. — and moved money as the map shifted.
It worked. Democrats flipped the Senate and delivered Michigan’s first Democratic trifecta in nearly forty years. Mallory was then appointed Senate Majority Whip, becoming the first woman to ever hold the position.
That majority then passed more bills into law in just six months than the previous six legislatures combined: repealed the 1931 abortion ban, raised wages, expanded civil rights and voting rights, made breakfast and lunch free for every kid in Michigan and put them on a path to universal pre-K, and passed the strongest gun safety laws in state history…to name a few.
In 2024, just a few thousand votes across a few districts cost us the state House. This November, a few thousand votes will decide it again.

Mallory will be on the road across Michigan every single week between now and Election Day — canvass kickoffs, rallies, local fundraisers, volunteer trainings, and more.
And the work doesn’t stop on Election Day. Mallory’s time in the Michigan Senate ends this year. A More Perfect Michigan doesn’t. The goal is durable infrastructure that keeps winning long after she’s out of the legislature, and a model that can be replicated nationwide.
